Certified Teacher, Fight Director, Fight Master
Jenny Male (she/her) is a Fight Director, Certified
Teacher, and Fight Master with the Society of American Fight Directors. She has
created fight choreography for DC/Baltimore theatres such as Studio Theatre, Ford’s
Theatre, Constellation Theatre Company, Arena Stage, Rep Stage, Olney Theatre, Chesapeake
Shakespeare Company, Everyman Theatre, ArtsCentric, Imagination Stage, Factory
449, and Adventure Theatre.
Jenny directed the outdoor drama Tecumseh! from 2014
to 2017 and for many years served as its Fight Director and Dance Choreographer. Other professional directing credits include Macbeth,
A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Scioto Society), My Fair Lady, As You Like
It (Ozark Actors Theatre), Into The Woods, Evil Dead: The Musical,
Urinetown, The Secret Garden, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling
Bee, and [title of show] (Red Branch Theatre Company), Peter Pan (Children’s
Theatre of Charlotte), and How I Became a Pirate (Adventure Theatre).
She holds an MFA in Theatre Pedagogy from Virginia
Commonwealth University and is Associate Professor of Theatre at Howard
Community College. Two of her HCC productions, Argonautika and Medea,
were chosen to perform for the American College Theatre Festival (Region 2). Jenny
has created several stage combat shows at HCC including Love Hurts, We
Could Be Heroes, and A Little Fight Music. She has also taught stage combat classes and
directed shows at Stevenson University and Towson University.
Jenny is one of the coordinators for the Mid-Atlantic Melee
and has taught at other regional SAFD workshops such as the Tourist Trap,
Summer Sling, The MAC, Virginia Beach Bash, Scenic City Slam, Fight Director
Training Workshop, Philadelphia Stage Combat Workshop, and Louisiana Stage
Combat Workshop. Jenny first attended
the National Stage Combat Workshop in 1998, and she was delighted to teach many
years later at the NSCW in 2022 and 2023.
She is a recipient of the SAFD President’s Award and served on the
Governing Body as the Certified Teacher Representative (2019-2021).
